The Snowbird SP1000 carries 1,000 g of 650 fill power duck down at a comfort rating of −5 °C, from 1.65 kg. That covers a Berg or Karoo winter night at altitude, at a weight you can still carry on foot. The mummy cut tapers towards the feet to reduce the volume of air your body has to warm.
Best for
Winter camping and high-altitude nights where the temperature drops well below freezing.
Not ideal for
Anything above freezing, where you would carry insulation you cannot use. Also not an expedition bag: alpine mountaineering calls for considerably more insulation than a −5 °C comfort rating provides.
