70 + 5L Hiking Backpack

A 75 litre pack for trips where you are living out of it. Two aviation-grade aluminium stays carry the load and transfer it onto your hips, and the back panel adjusts in height so the pack sits on your own back rather than a generic one. A rescue whistle is built into the sternum strap and there is reflective webbing front and back.

Best for
Five to eight night hikes, and shorter winter trips where bulkier kit fills the same volume faster.

Not ideal for
Loads over about 14 kg, which is where this frame stops carrying comfortably. Also not worth it for shorter trips, since a large pack half full carries worse than a smaller one packed properly.

Getting the fit right

Torso length is not the same as your height, and it matters more than anything else for how a pack carries. Feel for the bony bump at the base of your neck where it meets your shoulders, then place your hands on your hips with thumbs pointing back until they meet at the top of your hip bones. Measure along your spine between those two points.
