55 + 5L Hiking Backpack

A 60 litre pack sized for three to five nights out. Two things decide whether a load carries well: a back panel you can set to your own torso length, adjustable here between 45 and 51 cm, and a hip belt that pivots independently as you walk rather than fighting your stride on uneven ground.

Best for
Three to five night hikes carrying a tent, sleeping system, clothing and food. In winter, when kit is bulkier, expect closer to three nights from the same volume.

Not ideal for
Day walks, where 55 litres is more pack than you need, and trips beyond five nights where the 70 + 5L carries the extra food and fuel.

Finding your torso length

Torso length is not the same as your height. Feel for the bony bump at the base of your neck where it meets your shoulders, then place your hands on your hips with thumbs pointing back until they meet at the top of your hip bones. Measure along your spine between those two points.

Have someone else measure for you if you can. Getting the torso length right does more for how a pack carries than anything else you can adjust.
